Hokies Fail Upset Effort At NC State
RALEIGH, N.C. – Returning to the court after 21 days of no play, the NC State Women’s basketball team was no less than ecstatic to be in Reynolds Coliseum once again for another conference game. After a strenuous back and forth battle between the two teams, NC State (11-0) came out on top as they took down the Virginia Tech Hokies 89-87.
The NC State took a 6 point lead into the locker room at halftime after struggling to keep up with the Hokies. Concluding the first half NC State’s top performers, Jakia Brown-Turner lead with twelve points, while Raina Perez lead with four rebounds and three assists.
“This team believes that they can get it done. 21 days is a long time without a game. I am so proud of them for being able to overcome that” stated Head Coach Wes Moore concluding the matchup of the two teams.
There is no doubt the Pack has any challenge putting up a fight when faced with adversity. “I’m just playing basketball…every game is different and we control what we can” stated guard Kai Crutchfield who put up 20 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists to help the Pack obtain their win.
Jakia Brown-Turner outdid herself Sunday afternoon leading the Pack to their win with 23 points, while Kayla Jones assisted with an additional 22 points.
Many fans tuned into Sunday’s game thrilled to witness the game for the Kitley/Cunane (the two being life long best friends) matchup, were disappointed to learn that Elissa Cunane would not be taking the court due to COVID-19 protocol. However, that did not stop Kitley from shining for the Hokies, putting up a total of 30 points with 13 rebounds.
The Wolfpack (11-0, 6-0 ACC) looks to maintain their same stamina and focus as take on the Hokies once again in Blacksbur, Virginia, on Thursday, January 28th at 4 pm. The game will be aired live on ACCNX.
