Chancellor Johnson O. Akinleye

DURHAM, NC – At North Carolina Central University (NCCU), home of the Eagles, the annual briefing by the Chancellor is usually a breakfast and information event held on campus. This year, Chancellor Johnson O. Akinleye held a virtual media briefing to provide updates on the University on Wednesday, January 27th. A few of his distinguished colleagues shared wonderful information on completed and upcoming projects happening at NCCU.

Beginning the meeting, Chancellor Akinleye shared some University highlights, stating that in one academic year (2019 – 2020) NCCU students completed 181,965 hours of community service equivalent to $4.6 million in local economic impact. Student enrollment has increased despite the pandemic and the institution is ranked as number 10 in the nation as a top degree-granting institution for bachelor degrees given to African-Americans.

NCCU has added majors to its academic portfolio including:
  • B.S. Biomedical and Biomedical Sciences
  • B.S. Sports Medicine

NCCU School of Law has created the Law Patent Clinic. This clinic is an available resource for entrepreneurs, small businesses, and others to receive help gaining a legal patent on a personal invention. So far, the University has been successful with six United States patents being issued, including one for music professor Robert Trousers. Professor Trousers created a new type of reed in the music instrument industry.

The new construction completed on campus has been a delight for students. NCCU added some chain restaurants like Starbucks and recently finished the George Street Residence Hall and Alston Avenue Apartments. Upcoming projects include rebuilding Lawson Street Residence Hall, a new student center for socializing, a new School of Business, and a 24/7 Collaborative Learning Center.

North Carolina Central University is thriving with excellence as the institution grows and expands its programs. Complemented by new buildings and ideas Chancellor Akinleye was proud to present all of these updates and goals for the University. Covid restrictions have changed the semester for students and staff alike, however, the Eagles continue to soar into 2021 with excellence and pride.

  1. The other day, while I was at work, my cousin stole my apple ipad and tested to see if it can survive a 25 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is now destroyed and she has 83 views. I know this is completely off topic but I had to share it with someone!

  2. Interesting blog post. The things i would like to make contributions about is that personal computer memory ought to be purchased if the computer still can’t cope with what you do along with it. One can install two RAM memory boards with 1GB each, in particular, but not certainly one of 1GB and one having 2GB. One should always check the car maker’s documentation for the PC to be sure what type of ram it can take.
