Gills Deals: Inauguration Day Looks for Less

Many things about Inauguration Day 2021 looked different this year, but the fashions did not disappoint. Vice President Kamala Harris and former first lady Michelle Obama took the internet by storm with their designer outfits.

What’s more exciting than finding great fashion on a favorite idol, celebrity, or public figure we love seeing! Now, of course, their pieces are usually designer, but what if I can show you a way to put together a similar look, and save money while getting the same style?

Former first lady Michelle Obama attended President Joe Biden’s inauguration in a coordinated outfit that almost crashed the internet. Even since leaving the White House, she is still the fashion icon in the political world with her bold statement pieces. Donning a floor-length wool trench coat by Black designer Sergio Hudson, the matching plum ensemble consisted of a turtleneck and trousers with a belt. 

The original designer pieces aren’t available on the brand’s website, however, I  found something similar to the style and color. Amazon is my go-to place for fashion, housewares, and other decors so I’m not shocked I could piece together a deal finder for this stunning fit.

Amazon has a $56 coat that looks like the real deal for way less. Don’t let the price fool you, many five-star reviewers rave about how pleasantly surprised they were by the great quality. “I LOVE this coat. I was looking for a coat that fell right at the mid-calf and this was it. It has a silky inner liner and the collar will stand. It looks professional and MUCH more expensive than it actually is! I am a hairstylist and needed something chic and trendy yet professional and this was IT!!!!,” says one satisfied shopper. 

The plum turtleneck close to what she wore I was also able to find on Amazon for $15.99. The high-waisted bell-bottom pant was a great addition to this piece as well. The burgundy pants are $23.99.  You can get this whole set for less than $100!

The burgundy belt with gold detailing was a little more difficult for me to find the exact same style and detailing.  I absolutely love the belt Mrs. Obama wore but I did find a similar Burgundy Gold Buckle Faux Leather Belt by Bella Valentina for only $22.

If you want Kamala Harris’ purple and sophisticated inauguration day look but do not want to break the bank, we have you covered! Diane Von Furstenberg, makes a very similar draped silk straight gown and luckily for us, with a much lower price tag. However, if you still love the look but the deep purple may not be your color, another option for you is a Gianni Feraud, Lilac overcoat that you can purchase from ASOS.
