NCCU Baseball Struggles At Norfolk State
NORFOLK, VA – The NCCU baseball program made a couple of late surges on the road at Norfolk State, however, the Spartans were able to hold off the North Carolina Central University Eagles, 10-5, at Marty Miller Field on Sunday.
NSU (2-5) jumped out to an early lead by scoring the first four runs of the game, starting with three in the bottom of the second with help from a two-run single from Cody Donnell. NCCU cut the lead to two in the top of the fifth on a two-RBI double from Kokko Figueiredo, but the Spartans scored three more runs after that to widen the advantage to 7-2 on the way to the seventh inning.
The Eagles again trimmed the deficit to two in the top of the seventh with a three-run frame, with RBI singles coming from Figueiredo, Luis DeLeon, and Cameron Norgren to bring the score to 7-5.
NSU pulled away again in the bottom of the eighth with three runs to take a 10-5 lead before the final frame. The Eagles mounted one last charge in the ninth inning as they loaded the bases, but weren’t able to complete the comeback.
Figueriedo went 3-for-5 and drove in three RBI with a double during the contest, and DeLeon also had a three-hit day with an RBI as well.
Danny Hosley was the top batter for NSU as he went 3-for-3 with an RBI double.
NCCU (4-3) and NSU will meet for another split weekend series on Saturday and Sunday, March 6 and 7, starting with a doubleheader in Norfolk, Virginia at Marty Miller Field on March 6. The series will conclude with a single game on Sunday, March 7 at the Durham Athletic Park.
There is noticeably a lot to realize about this. I think you made various nice points in features also.
