Duke Gets Hot in 3rd Inning to Down NCCU
DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University baseball program fought all the way to the end but was unable to close the gap with Duke as the Blue Devils came away with a 7-4 win at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, March 16.
Jack Carey picks up the win for Duke while Jonathan Peacock registers the loss for the visiting Eagles.
Erik Nichols led the way for the Blue Devils with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s, and a walk in four plate appearances on the night.
Nick Fajardo picked up two walks with one hit and drove in the first run of the game on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the second. Kokko Figueiredo drove in two of the Eagles’ runs, and Caleb McRoy was strong in relief as he struck out three batters on just 12 pitches in one inning of relief.
NCCU (8-6) will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina to face the North Carolina A&T Aggies to open MEAC Southern Division play on Friday, March 19.
