Aggies Fall to NC State 10-4
RALIEGH, NC- NC A&T Aggies (9-24, 4-8 MEAC) were routed by the NC State Wolfpack (15-11, 8-10 ACC) 10-4 on Wednesday night at Doak Field at Dail Park.
The Aggies had difficulty getting much production on both offense and defense. They went through seven total pitchers and put up four runs off of four hits.
NC State pitcher Chris Villaman silenced the Aggies, for the most part, carrying a no-hitter with two outs into the fourth. That would end as Justin Rodriguez roped a double down the third baseline. Zach McLean got the Aggies in the run column belting a solo home run to left-centerfield off of Villaman.
NC A&T freshman right-hander Xavier Meachem got the nod on Wednesday to log in his sixth start of the season. Meachem came into the night supporting an 0-5 record along with a 10.26 ERA. He had struggled recently to get ahead of the count, resulting in 13 walks and seven hit batters in his 16 2/3 innings pitched going into the start.
Meachem would once again find himself in some trouble early on. He lasted one inning allowing three hits, four earned runs, two walks, and one strikeout.
It took him 36 pitches to record his three outs on the evening. He issued a free pass to the lead-off man Austin Murr and the third hitter for the Wolfpack Luca Tresh. Both would later score off a home run from left fielder Jonny Butler to put NC State in front 3-0.
Daniel Carter would follow for the Aggies in the second inning trailing 4-0. This marked his fifteenth appearance out of the bullpen this season. He had an up and down three innings giving up six hits, three earned runs, two walks, and a strikeout. However, he managed to get himself out of multiple jams to limit the damage.
Justin Fox, Isiah Brewington, Peyton Winebarger, Leon Davidson, and Justin O’Neal finished it off for the Aggies bullpen allowing a combined three hits and three earned runs.
North Carolina A&t is set to head back to Greensboro to take on MEAC rival Florida A&M University for a three-game series during the weekend at World War Memorial Stadium.
