NC State’s Austin Murr Remains Red Hot at the Plate

RALEIGH NC – The recent success of star infielder Austin Murr has lifted the NC State Wolfpack, catching fire at the right time in the 2021 season. They have won seven out of their last ten games to support their 22-14 (14-13 ACC) record and remain destined to compete in another NCAA tournament. Murr has played a significant role for the team offensively, piling up double digits in the run column over the last three contests.

The sophomore currently ranks third in batting average, third in hits, and is tied for fourth in home runs for the Wolfpack. Murr has racked up 12 hits during the hot streak, two home runs, and 8 RBI, putting him at a .306 batting average with seven homers and 26 RBI throughout the season.

Austin Murr has been approaching the batter’s box aggressively. In the last ten games, the two walks suggest that he is getting results jumping on pitches early in the count, and the power is improving because of that. Murr homered three times a year ago in their shortened season, but in a larger sample size of 34 games, the Pack has witnessed that Murr has natural power in his bat. He can hit the ball all around the field and has tremendous hand-eye coordination.

This is without even mentioning the stellar play in the field, he can play both infield and outfield and has not committed a single error all year long. If Murr keeps developing, we could be looking at an MLB-caliber talent.

Murr’s surge has caught the ACC’s attention earning him collegiate baseball national player of the week honors. He has been a consistent asset for the Pack, a team that struggled early on in the season to find their identity. That identity has quickly been discovered, making them a legitimate threat. It is all about playing your best baseball at the later stages of the season, and this is the best-case scenario with the tournament coming up in only three weeks.

The club enters the week as the second-best defense in the nation and a top-three offensive team in the ACC. Everything is clicking, and you have to give credit to legendary manager Elliott Avent for being able to pick up his players and getting them on track.

The Wolfpack will look to keep rolling as these final string of games are critical in terms of seeding. It all starts with their upcoming weekend series, where they will be traveling to Pittsburgh to take on their ACC foe, the Pittsburgh Panthers beginning on Friday.
