Bulls Defeat the Jumbo Shrimp 6-0 in Game Two
DURHAM NC – The Durham Bulls (6-3) took game two of Thursday’s doubleheader versus the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (6-3) in a shutout 6-0 victory at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The dominant win for the Bulls was credited to an excellent pitching performance by Drew Strootman. Strootman pitched five shutout innings giving up only three hits. In fact, through the first two innings, Strootman only threw 19 pitches to record his six outs.
The scoring did not start for the Bulls until the bottom of the second with a homer sent to right-field by Joseph Odom. Odom’s hit came after Taylor Walls’ single that put him on first base, giving the Bulls an early 2-0 lead.
Taylor Walls had a stellar performance that also came on the defensive end. Walls made a spectacular catch-and-throw that retired Bryson Brigman in the top of the third. The play alone showed the Jumbo Shrimp the intensity the Bulls played with to get their first home win.
The next score for the Bulls came in the bottom of the third on an RBI from Taylor Walls that knocked in Josh Lowe. Walls was thrown out, attempting to advance to second base, which ended the inning. Nonetheless, the damage had already been done, and the Bulls were up 3-0 heading into the fourth.
In the fifth inning, Joey Roach hit a solo run extending the lead to 4-0. Just two batters later, Lowe hit a bomb over the right-field wall that knocked in Vidal Brujan. This run ended the scoring for the Bulls and essentially the game.
The Durham Bulls cannot yet turn their faces away from the Jumbo Shrimp as they still have to play the last three games of their six-game series.
