Claudia Hager Named Interim Durham County Manager
Durham, NC – Claudia Hager has been named the Interim County Manager for Durham County Government, effective May 17, 2021. She will succeed Wendell Davis who served as County Manager for seven years.
Hager currently serves as the General Manager for Goal Five: Accountable, Efficient Visionary Government, a portfolio that oversees administrative operations and organizational process improvements. Hager comes to the role with more than 26 years of progressive experience, including over 10 years having worked with the Durham County Government. Her work experience prior to Durham County Government includes serving as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance and Process Improvement at North Carolina Central University and as Associate Vice President for Finance for the University of North Carolina – General Administration. Her career also included serving as a Program Coordinator and Policy Analyst with the North Carolina Partnership for Children.
“We are fortunate to have Claudia serve the county during this interim period,” said Durham Board of County Commissioners Chair Brenda Howerton. “Wendell Davis established an excellent team of public administrators that will continue to lead the organization. We are fortunate to have Claudia’s superior leadership during this period.”
When asked about her interim role, Hager stated, “I am honored to serve the Board during this period as Interim County Manager. It has been a pleasure working for Durham County Government during two different periods of my career. The organization has always had a committed and dedicated workforce. I am confident that our employees will continue to provide excellent service to our community.”
Hager earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics, with a minor in Finance from Winston-Salem State University. She also completed her Master of Public Administration from North Carolina State University. She is a Class IV Graduate of Leadership North Carolina. In addition, she is a member of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and The International City/County Management Association (ICMA).
