Take The Pledge To Get Durham Back On The Bull

DURHAM, NC – Following on from the success of the“Back on the Bull” campaign to help Durham businesses safely reopen and remain open, the Durham Recovery & Renewal Task Force (RRTF) has rolled out a “Back on the Bull” pledge, part of the ongoinghealth and safety campaign  from the City and the County of Durham in response to COVID-19. Taking the pledge is a way for residents to commit to the actions that will help Durham recover and encourage others to do the same.

Taking less than two minutes to complete, the pledge asks residents to get the vaccine, continue wearing face coverings before and after vaccination, and support local businesses responsibly.

The Chicken Hut’s Tre Tapp Pledges to Get Back on the Bull

“Dining in restaurants, spending time with family and friends, enjoying sports, and most importantly, sending all of our kids back to school safely,” are just some of the reasons why Tre Tapp, owner of the Chicken Hut has taken the Back on the Bull Pledge.

As more Durham residents get vaccinated and with COVID-19 restrictions easing, Tapp has been able to reopen his dining room for all of their customers to enjoy their signature crispy fried chicken and fixings, something he’s longed for since the pandemic began.

The pledge is online at www.BackontheBull.com/Pledge, suggesting straightforward, actionable steps that will help Durham rebound from the pandemic. Recovery starts with the distribution of the vaccine – a safe, free, and effective public health measure.

Bishop Clarence Laney Pledges to Get Back on the Bull

Bishop Clarence Laney Jr., Pastor of Monument of Faith Church in the historic Hayti community, has also taken the pledge and urges others in the community to do so. “I ask for you to join me because the one thing I am most looking forward to once we’re Back on the Bull is gathering in our sanctuary for worship.”

Bishop Laney is also looking forward to seeing loved ones in long-term care facilities, advising that “all of this is possible if we get vaccinated if we continue to wear masks, wash our hands, and stay six feet apart. I look forward to you helping us to make this a reality.”

More videos with quotes from other pledges – including Senator Natalie Murdock and Zweli’s Kitchen Owners Leonardo and Chef Williams – can be found onwww.BackontheBull.com/Pledge as well as the City of Durham’s YouTube channel.

A tool for residents to learn more about how to get the vaccine in Durham, the pledge also outlines how wearing face coverings is a proven action to prevent the spread of the virus. With variants of the virus that are more contagious, it is important to continue wearing masks – sometimes two – to protect one another until doctors say it is safe to stop doing so.

By taking the pledge and sharing it with others, you can help us build broad awareness of, support for, and confidence in the basic steps we each can take to speed up Durham’s recovery and renewal from COVID-19. Take the pledge and let’s get Back on the Bull.
