Josh Lowe Stays Red Hot Despite Bulls 5-4 Loss
DURHAM NC – Josh Lowe added to his already impressive start to the season in a Durham Bulls (23-10) 5-4 defeat versus the Charlotte Knights (12-21) on Friday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Lowe has been arguably the most valuable asset in the Bulls lineup other than Wander Franco. He picked up the slack on Friday, with Franco receiving a breather. Lowe finished the game going 2 for 4 with a single, double, and an RBI.
Through 33 games, the centerfielder is batting .321 with a team-best nine home runs, 24 RBI, 23 runs, and six stolen bases. He is also currently slugging an insane .679 and carries an OPS of 1.055. The 23-year-old is ranked second in longballs, fifth in RBI, fourth in runs scored, second in OPS, and first in slugging in the Triple-A East. The former 13th overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft may have finally found his rhythm at the minor league level and should continue to produce for the Bulls on a nightly basis.
Lowe tied the ballgame up in the bottom of the 1st inning in his first plate appearance connecting on an RBI double to left field, driving in Dalton Kelly in Friday’s contest. His single came in the 8th but unfortunately was left stranded as he would have been the games tying run. Ultimately Tristan Gray struck out swinging to end the frame. That later concluded the score at 5-4, with the Bulls being shut down in the 9th by Knights reliever Hunter Schryver.
The Bulls will eye a bounce-back win in game five as they will host the Knights on Saturday, June 12th, in Durham. Expect Lowe to remain red hot with his incredible power numbers at the plate hitting in the Bulls heart of the order.
