HBCU Stephens Cup

Top HBCU Golfers To Compete In Stephens Cup

The inaugural Jackson T. Stephens Cup, offering one of the strongest fields in college golf, is set for Oct. 17-20 at the prestigious Alotian Club in Roland, Ark., just outside Little Rock. Six of the top men’s and women’s teams in college golf, will compete for the Stephens Cup, named in honor of the late Augusta National Chairman, Jackson T. Stephens.

The Stephens Cup Tournament Committee is committed to expanding opportunities in the game of golf and fostering inclusion among talented golfers. Special invitations will be sent to the top players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and U.S. Military Service Academies (Army, Navy, Air Force).

“With the addition of collegiate golfers from HBCUs and U.S. Military Service Academies, we celebrate the diversity of education, ethnicity, and background, recognizing the sport is stronger with representation that reflects America. All of these young men and women are the future of golf and core to its growth. We look forward to announcing teams in the near future,” stated Warren Stephens, Chairman of The Jackson T. Stephens Cup.

The field of 72 players in the stroke-play competition will include the four individual men’s and women’s division winners (two male, two female) from the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship. This PGA of America event features student-athletes enrolled at HBCUs, Hispanic-serving institutions and other minority-serving educational institutions. Four players from the U.S Military Service Academies will be selected by their coaches who represent the high standards of their institution and the game of golf.

The teams and individual players for the inaugural 2021 Stephens Cup tournament field will be announced in mid-summer. The first 54 holes of stroke play will seed the men’s and women’s fields for a final 18 holes of match play. Stroke-play medalists will be honored on October 19 before match play begins.

The Alotian Club is the home course for the Jackson T. Stephens Cup and will host the competition every four to five years. In 2022, the tournament will be contested at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Fla., followed by Trinity Forest Golf Club, in Dallas, Texas in 2023.
