Bull City Express Track Club Qualifies 39 Athletes For The USATF Junior Olympics
DURHAM, NC – Following the USATF State and Regional Championships an incredible 39 Bull City Express Track Club athletes have qualified for the 2021 USATF Junior Olympics. From a team of fewer than 60 athletes, more than half of these athletes – who range in age from 7-17 years – have earned the opportunity to compete against the country’s best at this year’s event to be held in Jacksonville, FL July 26 – August 1, 2021. Athletes qualified in events ranging from 100m to the 800m, Hurdles, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Javelin, Discus, Triathlon (three events in one competition), Pentathlon (five events in one competition), and the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relays.
Financial troubles are an effect that some families still grapple with today. With that in mind, we are asking our community to help us make sure that every child makes it to Jacksonville. We are trying to raise $20,000 to make sure every child that earned that opportunity makes that a reality. – Omar Beasley, President – Bull City Express Track Club
“If I could use one word to describe this year’s team, I would use the word resilient,” said Omar S. Beasley, President Bull City Express Track Club. “After losing the 2020 season to COVID and the 2021 season very much in doubt in the winter, their resiliency overshadowed their circumstances. They were disciplined and worked hard throughout the season. They sacrificed their play with friends in exchange to work on the track. COVID changed how they lived over almost 18 months. Being on the track with their teammates became their refuge and they embraced it! They worked and improved so much so, that many of them rank atop of national list in their respective events.”
As the athletes prepare during this final week of practice, Bull City Express Track Club is working to assure that each and every kid in the program is able to take advantage of the opportunity that they have earned. COVID has brought about a strain on many people throughout the country and these athletes’ families aren’t immune to the many effects of COVID.
“Financial troubles are an effect that some families still grapple with today. With that in mind, we are asking our community to help us make sure that every child makes it to Jacksonville,” said Beasley. “We are trying to raise $20,000 to make sure every child that earned that opportunity makes that a reality.
