Regé-Jean Page Lands First Lead Studio Role In ‘The Saint’ Reboot At Paramount

Bridgerton‘s former leading man Regé-Jean Page has booked his very first studio lead role with a reboot of The Saint at Paramount.

Though the in-demand star has a lot of post- Bridgerton studio movies lined up, including Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons and Netflix’s The Gray Man, this is his first that he’s in the lead role.

Kwame Kwei-Armah is writing the script. He also wrote the upcoming John Boyega feature 892 and is penning Spike Lee’s musical All Rise.

As The Hollywood Reporter notes in their exclusive report, “The Saint is based on the early 20th-century adventure novels by Leslie Charteris that featured a mysterious man named Simon Templar taking down various sorts of bad guys. The character proved quite popular, appearing in comics, serials, and of course, movies and television. Roger Moore famously starred in the 1960s British TV series of the same name. Val Kilmer starred in Paramount’s 1997 film The Saint as a master of disguise. The logline for the new version is being kept under wraps.”

Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brad Krevoy are producing and Robert Evans, who died in 2019, will also get a posthumous producer credit.

A The Saint reboot had been in the works for a while, and last year, Chris Pine was attached to one with Dexter Fletcher directing. That project has since been shelved and it is unknown if Fletcher would still be involved. The filmmaker is well-regarded within the studio — he is currently directing Paramount Television Studios’ making-of The Godfather limited series The Offer for Paramount+.

Page soared to instant fame as Simon Bassett on Bridgerton and left the series for his burgeoning film career given he would have a reduced role in the Netflix series regardless.
