Teacher Supply Store Returns To Chapel Hill This Week
Chapel Hill, NC – For 15 years, The East Chapel Hill Rotary and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public Schools Foundation (PSF) have partnered to kick off the school year with much-needed school supplies for teachers. This year’s event will be held on August 19.
Middle and high school teachers, and all novice teachers, will receive supplies and a gift card. Social workers will receive brand new backpacks filled with supplies to distribute to students with financial needs. In all, more than $40,000 of supplies will be distributed to help defray the cost of classroom supplies which teachers often purchase with their own money.
“We are grateful for the unwavering financial support of East Chapel Hill Rotary members,” said Madeline Blobe, PSF Executive Director. “Their commitment to this event and public education remains steadfast.”
Since 2008, $455,000 of supplies have been distributed to classroom teachers. Daye Jones of Triangle Office Supply generously assisted with purchasing supplies at a discount again this year.
PSF and Rotary volunteers will be sorting supplies and filling 650 bags for delivery to middle and high schools across the district. The sort will take place from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at Participate Learning, 201 Sage Rd, #200, Chapel Hill, NC. Deliveries will take place from 11 am to 1 pm.
This year, PTA presidents at each school will greet PSF and Rotary Volunteers to help with distribution to the teachers. The school district would like to offer its deep gratitude to the Public School Foundation, the East Chapel Hill Rotary Club, and Triangle Office Equipment for their roles in fundraising, purchasing, organizing, and delivering the supplies. The efforts of these generous neighbors will have a meaningful impact on our teachers, but also our students and their families.
