‘UNCENSORED’: Tommy Davidson Reflects On Abandonment, Abuse, Not Knowing He Was Black On Next Episode

TV One’s original, autobiographical series UNCENSORED continues with film and television star Tommy Davidson on Sunday, September 12 at 10 PM ET/9C. The hit autobiographical series UNCENSORED explores the lives of your favorite personalities as they provide first-hand accounts of their success and the obstacles they faced throughout their careers. The next episode stars legendary comedian and actor Tommy Davidson. Abandoned by his birth mother, Tommy Davidson’s adoptive mother found him and raised him as her own. He grew up in Washington, D.C. as the youngest son of a white family. He recalls many moments of racism and bullying throughout his childhood, but he found joy performing for his family as early as the age of four. He booked his first job as a comedian at a strip club in 1986. The next year, he won a competition at the famed Apollo Theater in Harlem. The following years after, Tommy found himself performing shows with the likes of Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, and Robert Townsend. In 1990, he would become an original cast member of the groundbreaking hip hop sketch comedy show, In Living Color. He went on to appear in television shows and films like Martin, Strictly Business, Booty Call, Bamboozled, and Juwanna Mann. In 2001, he brought the animated Oscar Proud to life, voicing the character on Disney’s The Proud Family. He released his autobiography in January 2020, detailing his struggles with identity, addiction, and his climb to fame. Now, the legend is speaking on his career’s peaks and valleys on an all-new episode of UNCENSORED.
