Ikem Ekwonu Rated as the Best Offensive Tackle in College Football
RALEIGH NC – It all starts with the offensive line and Ikem Ekwonu of NC State is having a memorable 2021 season. According to Pro Football Focus, he is currently ranked as the number one offensive tackle in college football as we approach the halfway mark.
Known as “the most feared lineman in the ACC”, Ekwonu at 6 foot 4 320 pounds, has been outstanding for the Wolfpack and is beginning to look like one of the more prestigious NFL lineman prospects in the game.
The third-year tackle has improved every year and has officially broken out. He has been named ACC offensive lineman of the week twice in 5 games and is coming off a career game against LA Tech. He racked up an insane 11 pancake blocks and has 19 total in the past two contests.
The most impressive thing about Ekwonu is how good he is in both the passing and running game and has yet to blow a block in 152 run snaps. His size and strength are one thing, but his ability to shift and adjust quickly and athletically at that frame is almost impossible to find in a lineman. In 371 snaps this season, the versatile Ekwonu has not given up a sack, and that is one of the many reasons why QB Devin Leary is having so much success this season.
To be the top-ranked at his position in the ACC is great, but to be listed as the best in college football speaks volumes of how special this kid is. It has been a terrific year for the Wolfpack in general and especially for Ekwonu, who is making a solid case to hear his name be called in the first round in the 2022 NFL Draft if he decides to declare.
