NC State Jumps to #18 in Week 8 AP Poll Following Victory Over Boston College
RALEIGH NC – #18 NC State jumped up four spots in the week 8 AP Poll following their 33-7 dominant road win over the Boston College Eagles. 18th in the country is the highest mark for the Wolfpack since the 2018 campaign and the win extends a season-best four-game winning streak.
It looked like it would be a classic defensive battle through the first couple of quarters of the ballgame with the Pack only having a 10-7 advantage, but they became a different team in the second half. The Pack went on to outscore the Eagles 23-0, which concluded a 26 point blowout.
QB Devin Leary led the offense, going 16 for 24 in the air, totaling 251 passing yards and 3 touchdown passes. Thayer Thomas, Devin Carter, and Dylan Parham were responsible for the scores. Thomas had himself a career night tallying up 122 receiving yards off of 4 receptions including the 79-yard touchdown around the 4 minute mark in the 3rd.
The ground game was productive as well and racked up 130 combined yards as Jordan Houston was the leader in the backfield, rushing for 48 yards on 8 carries. On top of the successful outing, Emeka Emezie, who had just 2 catches for 8 yards, became the all-time reception leader in NC State history, a tremendous accomplishment.
BC had close to zero success on offense against this stingy defense. QB Dennis Grosel had just 194 passing yards on 39 attempts with a touchdown and a pick. The interception was credited to the Packs fearless leader Isiah Moore who went on to snag 9 total tackles. At the start of the 3rd quarter, the defense set the tone, recording a fumble return for a touchdown by Devan Boykin off a punt from 34 yards out. Following the game-changing play, the rest was history.
The encouraging road win improved the Wolfpack ACC record to 2-0, and there is plenty of conference games to be played. They will go for their fifth consecutive win next Saturday evening as they are set to travel to the University of Miami to take on the Hurricanes.
