The NCCU Eagles are Back to the Drawing Board

DURHAM, NC – The NCCU Eagles go back to the drawing board during their bye-week. They are now focusing on conference play.

In college football, there are essentially two seasons, conference and non-conference play. Unfortunately, the Eagles hit a bit of a rough patch before their week off, losing three straight.

Coach Oliver understood where the disconnect was. “We spent the majority of the time with techniques and fundamentals,” said Oliver.

Up until this point, NCCU averaged 77 penalty yards per game, being their own worst enemies, which is the most in the MEAC. NCCU has some major talent, I went into depth here, but Oliver has not let the troubles deter him from the real goal. “It’s about us. We spent a lot of time self-scouting” said Oliver.

The Eagles coach emphasized that he believes that anyone can move up in the depth chart. This is a new season, with new challenges. NCCU now sits at the fifth spot in the conference, but only two teams have played conference games, South Carolina State and Howard University. Both teams played Morgan State, resulting in victories, which is the Eagles’ next opponent.

NCCU (2-4, MEAC 0-0) will ship to Maryland to face Morgan State (0-6, MEAC 0-2). Morgan State is currently 0-6, and the Eagles hope to move up in the rankings with a road win.
