North Carolina Central: Players to Watch
DURHAM, NC- Ahead of North Carolina Central University’s matchup against Morgan State, we look forward to seeing a couple of players who have played great football up until this point.
NCCU has some explosive players on its roaster and they tend to shine win or loss. Players like Davius Richard, who put up 313 passing yards and 2 touchdowns in their loss against Tennessee Tech University.
Richard has thrown for 1026 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions.
Two of those touchdowns belong to Richard’s go-to receiver Ryan McDaniel. He leads the MEAC in receptions with 37; yards with 472; and yards per game with 78.7.
I have been open with my belief that NCCU has too many top-tier athletes to have only won two games. Yet, it gets proven week after week.
Two players on the North Carolina Central’s defense are at the top of the MEAC in tackles. Both Noah Rainbow-Douglass and Cole Williams are tied for second with 43.
NC Central has 11 players in the top 50 for tackles.
The Special teams unit deserves some love too. Adrian Olivio has not missed a field goal all season and also leads the MEAC with 8.
And You cannot talk about NCCU special teams without talking about Brandon Codrington.
Unfortunately, Codrington, NCCU’s home-run hitting returner, will likely be out. He had 77 kick return yards against Tennessee Tech, but on his first punt return attempt, he received a bone-crushing hit that sent him out.
He was carted off in an ambulance and unfortunately did not return to the game.
North Carolina Central (2-4) has some talented players who consistently put themselves in a position to be on the nation’s watch-list. Hopefully, these players will continue to shine and show the rest of the MEAC why they get the attention they do.
