A Cajun Childhood
Owner Anthony Greenup was raised in the bayou and specifically Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Many of his childhood memories involve a pot of gumbo boiling on the stove. One of Greenup’s lifelong goals was to open a Cajun restaurant. His background inspired him to open Baton Rouge Cuisine.
Background in Basketball
This dream took the sideline however when he spent nine years playing professional basketball. As a kid growing up, he played both basketball and football. Although he verbally committed to LSU; he opted to go to Dixie College in Utah once the coach left. He also attended Lee College in Texas and completed his final two collegiate seasons at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. Greenup earned the legendary title of Central College Athletic Association (CIAA) Defensive Player of the Year award for 2003-2004.
Upon completion, he was invited to try out for the Charlotte Bobcats until he suffered an ankle injury. Greenup then signed with the Harlem Globetrotters and played basketball all around the world. His nine-season career with the team earned him the nickname “Airplane.”
Greenup founded GreenupCamps in 2009 with the mission to develop youth with the tools it takes to become a successful basketball player. Through coaching and mentorship, children will take away the technique, sportsmanship, and attitude needed to be the best basketball player, both on and off the court.
These days the basketball star is kicking it back by serving food to his community alongside his wife Leslee and two kids. Despite the humble appearance of the white truck, it carries spicy and savory food. For those who prefer spicy foods, it’s rumored that the Jumbalaya is capable of melting your face off or at least making you feel like it is. Their menu also features special sauces such as the “Who Dat.” The business hours of the truck depend on the location for that day, but their website makes it easy for you to find more information.
