Destiny Alexander: Healing The Soul Through Memories
Durham, NC – Destiny Alexander is the owner of Photo Booth Therapy located at 1001 N. Miami Blvd., She states that “Healing The Soul Through Memories” is her business slogan as she is an outlet for people to create their memory in a picture. But creating Photo Booth Therapy wasn’t her original plan.
After graduating from North Carolina Central University and receiving her degree in social work on her path of becoming a therapist. After some trials and errors and seeing her desired vision not meet her ideals she had to change plans. She still wanted to continue helping people in her own way.
Dealing with her own personal healing journey she found that taking pictures and creating memories to look back on pulled her through.
That was her inspiration in creating Photo Booth Therapy as she can attest that it has helped her. “I wanted to use this technology to bring awareness to therapy, but in a fun way.”
Her mission is to connect to people and create a fun and inviting environment where people can just enjoy themselves while never forgetting that feeling in a photo.
Expansion In her Career
Destiny had started her company with her daughter and has grown to the size of 10 employees. Luckily she has gotten some good traffic and is looking for part-timers to help her out.
Before the startup of her business Destiny had fasted for 21 days her personal motto was “Ownership and discipline, I had to own something, start something, and be disciplined about it.” Not only did this motto help her create her company but also her mental and bodily health.
While beginning her business ownership journey she believes that word of mouth is the best way to advertise herself and her brand. Besides Photo Booth Therapy’s social media platforms, she really gets her audience and advertisements out of her events.
Recently she was a vendor at the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh, which is practically a perfect place to provide her services. She has visited all of the surrounding universities – NCCU, Saint Augustine’s, Duke, NC State, and UNC-Chapel Hill – while also doing private events. Destiny has done baby showers, weddings and has big plans on becoming the top photographer in the funeral world.
Awareness Is Key
Destiny explains the process which her team calls the “2-Minute Fun Therapy.” Under those two minutes in a themed booth the clients are given props, to use and have fun with a picture and motion video. After the process clients are given a printout of their picture and send their video to look back on to embrace their memory whenever need be.
What I love about Destiny’s company is her spreading awareness of therapy. She clarifies that Photo Booth Therapy doesn’t replace professional help if needed, again it is to spread awareness while also becoming an outlet to spread joy and comradery.
That being said she decided to locate her business in the town she grew up in, Durham. Her love for the city allowed her to give back to the community that raised her passion for helping others.
To follow Destiny on the path of spreading joy, follow her company Instagram @photobooththerapy to learn more about her services.
