SugarKane Sugaring Spa: A New Take On Waxing

SugarKane Sugaring Spa
Lockhart

CARY, NC – Robin Ky’ Lockhart is the owner of SugarKane Sugaring Spa.  Many know her as Ky’ (pronounced “key”) Her spa is located in Cary, NC. You can find more information about where to find her and how to set up appointments on her website. She offers a variety of sugaring waxes and lash treatments, and even makes and sells her own sugar paste. “I love, love, love what I do.”

Origins

Lockhart’s childhood hero was Madame C.J. Walker, the first African-American woman to become a millionaire. She was also inspired by her entrepreneurial uncle, who would oftentimes push her to figure things out on her own.

Her journey to business ownership officially started when she was a trainer for school bus drivers. She was looking for a sign to start a new career when someone told her, “You have a lucky face, you’re in the wrong place.” While studying at college for cosmetology one of her classmates mentioned the sugaring waxing method. Ky’ had hated waxing her whole life, as it was painful. “I tried it on my underarm, and it didn’t hurt a bit.” She left college to pursue sugar waxing. Lockhart was completely enthralled by this alternative method, and how gentle it is on the skin.

She started her waxing career in 2005 and is thriving today. The sugar paste not only gets rid of hair but collapses the hair follicles so that less of it grows back. Ky’ is a self-proclaimed perfectionist and germaphobe. “You will leave Sugarkane Sugaring Spa without a single unwanted hair left.”

“God provides.”

Lockhart claims that her method involves counseling. Many of her customers come to her with both unwanted hair and personal problems. “My customers leave refreshed, physically, mentally, and spiritually.” Religion is a big part of Lockhart’s life, Seventh Day Adventist Christianity to be exact. When she first started out, people were trying to convince her that she would fail for taking Saturdays off to honor the Sabbath. But nowadays she thrives. “God provides,” she says.
