NC State Takes First Game of HOF Showcase

MONTVILLE CT- The NC State Wolfpack Men’s Basketball team traveled to Connecticut where they faced off against and defeated Central Connecticut State 79-65 in the first of two games of the Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase at Mohegan Sun Arena Tuesday evening.

The Pack returned to Mohegan Sun Arena for the second consecutive season after a complete beatdown of Umass Lowell 90-53 last season in December 2020.

Redshirt sophomore guard and ACC Player of the Week Dereon Seabron (Norfolk, VA) led the way in scoring for the pack tallying 24 points nine rebounds, and three steals on 8 for 12 from the field and shooting an outstanding 80% from the stripe.  Sophomore guard Cam Hayes chipped in with 10 points and freshman guard Terquavion Smith added 11 off the bench in the victory.

The Pack outrebounded the Blue Devils 40-35 in the win and shot a stellar 47.8% from beyond the arc, which marked their best 3 point shooting performance of the season and was two key factors that helped lead the Pack to a win to help move them to 3-0 on the season.

NC State Head Coach Kevin Keatts has really emphasized valuing the basketball all season as they came into the contest totaling just 14 turnovers all season. In the win, the pack was able to force 14 Blue Devil turnovers that helped them set the tone of the game.

The points off turnover stat line have also fallen into the Pack’s favor as they are averaging 19 points off opponent turnovers and are outscoring its opponents by 15 points this season. The Pack has won nine straight games when it outscores its opponents in points off turnovers.

The Pack looks to replicate their momentum and energy into tomorrow night for their second game of the showcase where they take on a tough and talented Big 12 team in Oklahoma State at Mohegan Sun Arena at 8 PM.
