RALEIGH, NC – The Ebony Anglers are a competitive women’s fishing team established in the Triangle area. They are five professional Black women who embrace the sport of competitive deep-sea fishing while balancing family, motherhood, and business.

Their mission is:
  • To impact the sport of competitive women’s fishing through the diversity and inclusion of female anglers of color.
  • To create/build an elevated lifestyle brand anchored in nautical sportsmanship and fine outdoor living.
  • To model the strength, balance, and resilience of Black women through the sport of competitive fishing, boating, and elevated outdoor living.
  • To establish a legacy of leadership, sportsmanship, and excellence for youth through education and mentoring.

On November 20, 2021, The Ebony Anglers hosted a local fundraising gala “Deep Blue Sea” to benefit their Ebony Anglers Foundation. Their fundraising efforts will extend to Giving Tuesday, giving a broader community an opportunity to support their program Black Girls Fish and Black Boys Boat.

The Ebony Anglers hosted 23 youth ages 8-12 for 2 summer youth camp days on Sunday, September 22, and Sunday, October 3, 2021. The Ebony Anglers taught the campers fishing fundamentals which included parts of the fishing rod, baits, and lures, how to tie knots, how to properly cast, and the different fish species in Falls Lake. The second camp day taught campers water and boat safety, parts of the boat, and each camper learned how to operate and drive pontoon boats on Falls Lake.

“This camp is truly a labor of love”, says Ebony Angler Lesleigh Mausi. “It is important to us to share with young people the skills we’ve learned while out on the water. We’d like to eventually be able to offer this camp at no cost to the campers, and hopefully, we can raise that level of support on Giving Tuesday.”

Ebony Anglers Foundation is a 501c3 established by Ebony Anglers. The mission is to establish a legacy of leadership, sportsmanship, and excellence in the Ebony Anglers community through education and mentoring.

Black Girls Fish and Black Boys Boat (#BlackGirlsFish) (#BlackBoysBoat) (BGF) (BBB) is an educational program for minority and underprivileged youth under the Foundation.

The mission of BGF and BBB is:
  • To share with (and develop in) youth an appreciation and agility for fishing (and boating) as an outdoor sporting lifestyle.
  • To educate youth in the fundamentals of fishing (and boating), both as a sport and as a lifestyle.
  • To empower youth with life skills that promote self-sufficiency, physical and intellectual fortitude, and sound leadership values.
