Durham Mayor-Elect Elaine O’Neal Announces Transition Team
DURHAM, NC – Mayor-elect Elaine O’Neal has announced her transition team co-chairs and initial transition team members.
Co-Chairs Lew Myers and Michael Goodmon will lead the transition team. Myers retired in 2016 as a Principal and Director of Business Development for the North Carolina practice of Perkins&Will. Following retirement, he served as interim President and CEO of Downtown Durham, Inc. Myers currently serves as Chairman of the Boards of Directors for the National Institute of Minority Economic Development and the Center for Community Self-Help.
Michael Goodmon is the Senior Vice President at Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc., the owners/operators of the American Tobacco Campus, the American Underground, and the Durham Bulls in Durham, NC. His board service includes the AJ Fletcher Foundation, the Fletcher Academy, Durham Children’s Initiative, Cristo Rey Research Triangle High School, Triangle Community Foundation, United Way of the Greater Triangle, and Leadership Triangle. Additionally, Goodmon serves as the Chair of the Governor’s Entrepreneurial Council for the state of North Carolina. He also co-chaired the successful 2016 Durham County Bond Referendum Committee, which raised $170 million for Durham Public Schools, Durham Technical Community College, the Museum of Life and Science, and the Durham County Main Library.
Mayor-elect O’Neal also named an initial group of transition team members who will bring decades of diverse lived experiences, leadership, community service, and perspectives to help advance her top priorities in the first 100 days. This group will also ensure that there is close collaboration with communities and stakeholders across all of Durham.

- Shane Jones, President, Keever and Jones, LLC
- Dr. Eunice Sanders, Co-Executive Director, Crayons2Calculators
- Casey Steinbacher, Executive Director, Made in Durham; CEO, Casey’s Company; Former President and CEO, Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce

I’m sure you’re getting much good advice from Lew Myers, Michael Goodmon, and Farad Ali. A couple of the current council members are also likely valuable.
