UNC Women End Season With Blowout Over Duke

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The No. 18 UNC Tar Heels women’s defeated rival Duke in a dominant 74-46 win on Sunday afternoon in Carmichael Arena.

UNC came into this legendary conference matchup having won six of their last seven games led by Star guard Deja Kelly, who averaged 17.7 points over that stretch.

UNC (23-5, 13-5 ACC) jumped out the gate on a 14-3 run to start the first quarter led in part by guard Alyssa Ustby and forward Anya Poole. Both Ustby and Poole finished with 15 points each while shooting above 50% from the field, leading all scorers.

Duke (16-12, 7-11 ACC) guard Celeste Taylor scored six of the Blue Devils’ eight first quarter points as she finished as Duke’s leading scorer with 14 points.

Four Tar Heels starters scored double figures as UNC doubled the Blue Devils scoring total by halftime. UNC ended the half on a 12-0 run following a strong second quarter from Sophomore Kennedy Todd-Williams. Todd-Williams scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Coming out of the half, the Tar Heels further dominated Duke by extending their lead to 30 at one point.

UNC was in command of the rebound battle as they outrebounded the Blue Devils 51-35. Senior Carlie Littlefield dominated Duke on second-chance opportunities in the third as she finished with 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.

The Blue Devils have now lost five of their last six games which is their worst stretch of the season.

As the regular season is now over, both Duke and UNC look onto the ACC Tournament next week in Greensboro at the Greensboro Coliseum.
