NC State Wins 3rd Straight ACC Championship Title
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The first-seeded and No. 3 ranked NC State Wolfpack women defeated seven-seeded Miami 60-47 en route to their third consecutive ACC championship.
Senior Elissa Cunane won her second straight ACC Tournament MVP following a 17 point, eight-rebound performance. Cunane averaged 17.3 points and nine rebounds on 54% shooting from the field in three tournament games.
Both teams battled in the first half as the Wolfpack went into the second quarter with a 14-12 lead after one.
NC State picked up the pace to end the first half as they sparked a 10-0 run to end the half, leading 32-23.
The Hurricanes were led by Senior guard Kelsey Marshall who finished with 24 points and four rebounds. Marshall was the only Hurricane in double figures.
Matters became worse for Miami in the second half as NC State outscored them 19-10 in the third quarter. The Wolfpack ended the quarter on a 9-0 run and held the Hurricanes scoreless for nearly five minutes of action.
Sophomore guard Diamond Johnson scored six points in the final quarter to help propel the Wolfpack to victory. Johnson finished with 11 points and three assists.
Before this three-peat, NC State hadn’t won an ACC Tournament title since 1991.
