Durham Rotary Club Recognized For $1 Million In Donations To Its Foundation

DURHAM — The Durham Rotary Club was recognized at its March 7 meeting downtown as the first in central North Carolina to have raised a cumulative total of $1 million over its history for use by the Rotary Foundation, a global non-profit organization funding health, education, and the environment. The club opened and displayed a Rotary International flag of recognition that will be used at Durham club meetings in perpetuity. The Durham Club was founded in 1905.

The Durham club also recognized two local organizations that it has funded, Legal Aid and Little Free Library. The two groups are being supported by additional charitable giving in the amounts of $10,000 and nearly $600 respectively. Legal Aid has helped about 100 families stay in their homes; Little Library used the gift to build a repository in Bragtown. Speakers from both organizations updated club members about their expansion plans using club funds.

“We are proud that our mix of accumulated giving historically on a global basis complementary with our real-time giving on a local basis is bettering the public good,” said Club President Indira Everett.”

Other local charitable organizations are scheduled to receive support from the club in the coming months.
