NC State Knocks Off BC in Walk-Off Fashion
RALEIGH, NC – The North Carolina State Wolfpack men’s baseball team defeated the Boston College Eagles 4-3 on Thursday evening at Doak Field at Dail Park.
The Eagles started solid, opening to a 1-0 lead at the top first inning. The Wolfpack quickly responded as Tommy White scored an RBI, and LuJames Groover III ran through home. NC State tied the game 1-1 at the end of the first.
The Second inning kicked off with NC State quickly securing three outs. State grounded Rafe Chaumette en route to second base, and Barry Walsh and Lucas Stalman struck out. The Wolfpack took the lead at the bottom of the second as senior JT Jarrett secured an RBI.
The third and fourth innings were uneventful, with both teams failing to secure any runs. This changed in the third, when freshman Payton Green out of Cary, NC, scored on a passed ball. The Eagles came storming back at the top of the sixth as Chaumette and Junior Parker Landwehr scored after a hit by Lucas Stalman.
Boston College appeared to gain some momentum at the top of the seventh inning. Travis Honeyman advanced to third after Cameron Leary struck out. However, in some clutch defense, NC State grounded out Joe Vetrano, and Luke Gold was out on the play. The eighth inning was also uneventful as both the Wolfpack and eagles failed to secure any runs.
The game came down to a nail-biting ninth inning where NC State and Boston College were all tied up at three apiece. At the top of the third, the Wolfpack struck out Stalman and grounded out Sam McNulty between second and third bases. The Wolfpack also struck out Leary.
The Wolfpack eventually secured the Win as senior Devonte Brown tallied an RBI as Noah Soles raced across home plate to score. The NC State Wolfpack kick off the series with a solid win. The Eagles play again in Raleigh on Friday the 15thand Saturday the 16th.
Devonte Brown, Tommy White, and J.T. Jarrett tallied an RBI as the Wolfpack improved to 21-11 on the season and 8-7 in ACC play. This Win pushes the streak to 3 wins for the Wolfpack.
