Schreck Pushes Duke Past Notre Dame in Extras
DURHAM, NC – Duke’s RJ Schreck singled down right field for Alex Mooney to run home closing the game out 4-3 in the bottom of the 11th inning at Jack Coombs Field.
The win for tonight’s game secured the three-game series for the Blue Devils this weekend in Durham.
Sophomore, Luke Storm and Senior, RJ Schreck led the Blue Devils in hits. Storm had four at-bat appearances, finishing with three hits and one RBI. His homer to right-center is what tied the game 3-3 in the eighth inning. Schreck had five at-bat appearances, with two hits, one RBI, and a double to add to Duke’s four-run game.
Duke’s right-hander Marcus Johnson played a strong six innings with six strikeouts and only allowing five hits for the Fighting Irish.
The Blue Devils had a slow start to the game with Notre Dame leading 2-0 until the fourth inning. The Fighting Irish, Brooks Coetzee hit a dinger to center field giving him and Carter Putz each a run home to put Notre Dame on top. During the bottom of the fourth, Duke’s Alex Mooney singled up the middle with 2 RBIs that gave Wil Hoyle and Devin Obee the opportunity of a two-run score, tying the game at 2-2.
With a big play from Schreck, the Blue Devils had one hit and one run in the 11th inning to clinch the win against The Fighting Irish.
The Blue Devils and Fighting Irish face off one more time in the last game of the series on Saturday at 12 PM at Jack Coombs Field. The game will be streamed on ACC Network.
