Wake Defeats The Wolfpack in Dominant Fashion
Raleigh, NC – The Wake Forest Demon Deacons defeated the NC State Wolfpack six runs to two in the second game of three tonight at Doak Field.
The Deacons opened up the game with 2 runs at the top of the first inning. Sophomore Tommy Hawke hit the double down right field. Pierce Bennett followed up the double by walking to first with Hawke on second. Brendon Tinsman then secured the RBI as Hawke ran through home and Bennett ran to third. Unfortunately for the Deacons, Tinsman was grounded out at first base. Next up at-bat was Nick Kurtz, who hit the single to centerfield, securing the RBI as Bennett ran through home. Two more strikeouts retired the Deacons, but the Wolfpack only had one hit at the bottom of the first. The Deacons led the Wolfpack two runs to zero at the end of the first.
Tinsman opened up the second inning with a homer to center field, putting the Deacons up three runs to none against The Wolfpack. NC State fell deeper into a hole as they failed to secure any runs in the third, leaving them runless a third through the game. The Pack gained some ground after an empty showing by Wake in the fourth. Tommy White secured the hit the single towards third base while Josh Hood secured the single through the left side, leaving White on second and Hood on first. Will Marcy secured the hit to move towards first, but Hood was tagged out at second. Then, off a wild pitch, Marcy advanced to second and White ran through home, two quick outs to end the inning, with the Wolfpack getting on the board, but still down to Wake three runs to one.
The next three innings were scoreless on both sides, but Wake blew the doors open in the eighth inning, outscoring the Wolfpack three runs to one. The ninth inning was also scoreless on both sides, with Wake Forest emerging victorious against the Wolfpack. NC State will look to bounce back on Saturday, May 21st against Wake in their final game before the ACC Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina.
