The Demon Deacons Shutout the Wolfpack in Game Three
RALEIGH, NC- After winning the first two games of the series, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (39-16-1) continued their streak, this time leaving the NC State Wolfpack (33-20) off the board to win 5-0 in game three.
The Demon Deacons came out this afternoon seeking to sweep the series and did so by allowing NC State only three hits and zero runs throughout the game. Teddy McGraw was the starting pitcher for Wake Forest and remained as so for seven innings. McGraw had seven strikeouts, two KL’s, and only three base by balls which made it difficult for the Wolfpack to get hits.
Nick Kurtz was a big weapon on offense for Wake Forest, having four at-bat appearances, two runs, three hits, two RBIs, and a home run. In the top of the second, Kurtz hit a homer out to left field which resulted in one of his RBIs for the afternoon and started the five-run streak for the Demon Deacons. Then in the top of the fourth, Brendan Tinsman earned himself a home run to left field putting Wake Forest up 2-0. Jake Reinisch singled to right field which gave way for Kurtz to hit home plate, then making the score 3-0.
The last two runs were scored in the top of the fifth starting with Michael Turconi advancing to second due to a fielding error made by NC State. This then led to each player on the base advancing, giving Tommy Hawke an unearned score. Kurtz hit a single out to right field which allowed for Pierce Bennett to move along to home plate, leaving the score 5-0 for Wake Forest.
The Demon Deacons were able to end their regular season on a high note by taking all three games of the series played this weekend.
The ACC Championship begins on Tuesday, May 4th in Charlotte, North Caroline at Truist Field.
