Bulls Cruise Past Knights In Charlotte

Charlotte, NC – The Durham Bulls, led by Cal Stevenson, blow past the Charlotte Knights in an impressive nine runs to two at Truist Field in the first game of a five-game series.

The top of the first inning kicked off with Mark Payton grounding out en route to first base. This was followed by Yolbert Sanchez flying out to Bulls right-fielder Josh Lowe. the Knights rebounded with a quick double by Danny Mendick. Carlos Perez followed with a single and tacked on the RBI as Mendick ran through home. Yermin Mercedes followed with a single to left field as Perez moved to second. Unfortunately for the Knights, Adam Haseley lined out to Bulls’ second baseman Xavier Edwards, retiring the Knights. The Bulls failed to get on the board after a strikeout, pop out, and force out.

The Knights failed to add any runs at the top of the second. The Bulls kicked off the bottom of the second with Xavier Edwards walking to first. Unfortunately, Luke Raley and Ford Proctor both struck out after this.  However, Tristan Gray was able to recover with a single. Edwards proceeded to steal home and tie up the game, while Gray stole second base. Cal Stevenson nailed a homer to right-center field, giving Durham the lead three runs to one. The Bulls retired with two left on plates.

The only action the Knights saw in the third was a walk by Mercedes to first after four balls. The Bulls kicked off the bottom of the third with a double by Rene Pinto. Edwards followed with a groundout, but Pinto moved to third. Raley followed with a single, tacking on the RBI as Pinto ran through home, increasing The Bulls’ lead four runs to one.

The Bulls kept their foot on the gas throughout the fourth and fifth innings, tacking on five more runs, and holding The Knights to zero. The Knights failed to score again until the top of the ninth inning. The final score was nine runs to two in favor of Durham. Cal Stevenson finished the game with two hits, two runs, and two RBIs.

The Knights and Bulls run it back on Wednesday, May 25 for game two in Charlotte starting at 6:35 P.M.
