The Carolina Tar Heels Advance In Pool Play

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —– North Carolina Tar Heels improved to 35-19 while the Clemson Tigers dropped to 35-22. The Tar Heels scored in each of their first five innings in their 9-2 victory against Clemson.

A one-out single from Danny Serretti brought homes the game’s first run in the bottom of the first. Afterward, Bryar Hawkins reeled in a sacrifice fly in the top of the second inning to tie the score. Two extra runs scored on a dropped fly ball to deep left field, and Mikey Madej followed with a solo homer in the third inning.

In the fourth inning, Chapel Hill added three more runs, spotlighted by Vance Honeycutt’s two-run single, and another run in the fifth inning making the score 7-1. At the bottom of the fourth, Seretti drew a bases-loaded walk with one out in the fourth to plate Wilkerson. Hunter Stokely added two hits at the bottom of the lineup for North Carolina, which finished with 11 hits on the night.

In the eighth inning, North Carolina scored its final run. In the ninth inning, Will Taylor scored a run with a two-out single.

Max Carlson (2-2) earned the win in 6.0 innings pitched, allowing six hits, one run, and one walk while striking out four batters. Mack Anglin (6-6) took the defeat for the Tigers.

The Tar Heels look to continue their winning streak against Virginia Tech Friday at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
