The Pack Head to the ‘Ship after Huge First Inning

CHARLOTTE, NC– The No. 10 NC State Wolfpack “packed” the stadium with 8,360 attendees to defeat the No. 11 Pittsburgh Panthers, 8-3, at Truist Field.

NC State heads to the ACC Championship as they go against fellow North Carolina native, the UNC Tar Heels.

The Wolfpack had their own home run derby early in tonight’s matchup, to put up five runs in the bottom of the first. Devonte Brown started the streak with a home run to right-center which was then followed by Tommy “Tanks” White who also knocked one out to right-center. White’s dinger made him the new NCAA freshman home run record holder with 26. The third home run of the inning was hit by Dominic Pilolli resulting in two RBIs for Soles to score.  Redshirt Junior, Josh Hood put up another run for NC State off a ground out by Jarrett to end the inning 5-0.

Pitt was able to give themselves two runs in the top of the fourth inning due to a walk for Duff, a fielding error for Hulett, and a walk for Funk to be put in scoring position. Franks then came out to single to right field to push those two to home plate. The Panthers were down three until the Wolfpack answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 8-2.

Senior, Canaan Silver, had an outstanding 5.2 inning performance as pitcher for NC State. Silver allowed five hits, two base by balls, zero errors, and seven strikeouts to assist in keeping the Panthers from putting up runs.

Ron Washington Jr. put up the first home run for Pitt which was also the last homer of the night in the seventh inning. Senior, Bryce Hulett then singled to right field followed by a single by Anderson to left field in hopes of adding to Pitt’s run game but they were retired.

The NC State Wolfpack faces off with the North Carolina Tar Heels back at Truist Field on Sunday, May 29th at 12 P.M for the ACC Championship Title.
