Book Harvest To Host Block Party With Free Books, Entertainment, Kids’ Activities 

DURHAM, NC – Book Harvest’s annual Block Party will serve as a free community-wide celebration of summer, books, and National Summer Learning Week on Saturday, July 16 from 1 to 4 pm on the concourse of the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. 

The afternoon will be filled with family activities and entertainment, highlighted by an abundance of free culturally inclusive children’s books for every child – from infants to high schoolers – to take home and keep forever. Plus,

    Live performances by the Bouncing Bulldogs and Batalá Durham

  • Pierce Freelon, Grammy-nominated Durham musician and author of the recently published children’s book Daddy-Daughter Day, will read to the crowd; 
  • Books and Bops will lead a fun, movement-based storytime; 
  • The Poetry Fox will create custom, individual poems on his typewriter; 
  • A variety of community partners will offer information about their organizations; 
  • A DJ will spin family-friendly tunes; 
  • The first 300 people through the doors will get a $5 voucher to use at the concession stand!

In addition, partygoers will greet Book Harvest Durham’s new Executive Director, Tabitha Blackwell – and all attendees will receive free mini cupcakes provided by Wegmans of Chapel Hill to welcome her. Blackwell is scheduled to share an announcement about an all-new Book Harvest program at the Block Party. 

Free parking will be available throughout the American Tobacco Campus, including street and garage parking.
