NCCU Promotes Greene, Serba to Deputy Athletics Directors

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University Director of Athletics Dr. Louis “Skip” Perkins has promoted veteran administrators Kendra Greene and Kyle Serba to Deputy Athletics Directors.

Greene will serve as Deputy Athletics Director for Internal Affairs, while Serba accepts the role of Deputy Athletics Director for External Affairs.

Greene, who will remain as Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) and Title IX Coordinator, will oversee compliance, academics, financial aid, budget and finance, housing, travel, contracts, community engagement, student-athlete development, and NCAA reporting. She will also continue to lead the men’s and women’s golf programs for the 2022-23 season.

“I am pleased to announce Dr. Greene’s enhanced role, which allows her to continue the exceptional job of serving our student-athletes and the university,” said Perkins, who began his leadership tenure at his alma mater on June 1. “She represents the institution admirably with her MEAC and NCAA committee work, as well as maximizing her team-player mentality within the NCCU campus community. I look forward to her continued enthusiasm and dedication to our students, coaches, recruits, and alumni.”

Serba, who will maintain the duties as director of strategic communications, will additionally be responsible for marketing, corporate sponsorships, facilities, game operations, ticketing, and tailgating, licensing and branding, NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness), letter-winners club, hall of fame, and special events.

“Mr. Serba has had a monumental career thus far at North Carolina Central,” Perkins said. “Having been a member of NCCU during the past 28 athletic seasons, there has not been an event, championship, or celebration he hasn’t been an integral part of. In addition, he has helped shape the Eagle Athletics brand, ushered us into the digital media age, and I can confidently say he has enhanced the collegiate athletic experience of every student-athlete that has worn the maroon and gray in the past three decades. I am extremely excited to continue working with Mr. Serba in his elevated role, as we further showcase NCCU Eagle Nation on a global scale.”

Greene joined NCCU in July 2019 as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations and SWA with more than a decade’s worth of experience in similar roles at four other Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), including two other Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) member institutions. She served as Associate AD for Compliance/SWA at Florida A&M University (2018-19), Senior Associate AD for Internal Operations at Alabama State University (2016-18), Associate AD for Compliance at Delaware State University (2014-2016), and Associate AD for Academics/SWA and academic advisor at University of the District of Columbia (2009-2014).

In addition, she spent three years at the University of Maryland as a Program Coordinator for the Student-Athlete Academic Support and Career Development Unit and two years at the University of Oklahoma both as a Special Events and Facility Management Coordinator.

A native of Michigan, Greene graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and a focus in pre-law in 2004, followed by a Master of Education in higher education administration with an emphasis in intercollegiate athletic administration at Oklahoma in 2005. She completed a post-graduate certificate program from George Washington University in brain injury education and transitional services in 2010 and earned a Doctorate in Education from Concordia University of Chicago.

Serba has been part of the NCCU Athletics staff for 28 years, having been hired as Director of Sports Information in 1994. In his role as SID, Serba was a four-time recipient of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Sports Information Director of the Year award, claiming the honor in 1997, 1999, 2000, and 2006. His work has also been recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) with awards in publications and writing contests. He has also held leadership positions as President of the CIAA-Sports Information Directors Association and the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA).

In the fall of 2006, Serba was inducted into the NCCU Alex M. Rivera Athletics Hall of Fame for his service to the university. He became an alumnus of NCCU in 2019, graduating summa cum laude with a master’s degree in physical education and recreation with a concentration in athletics administration.

Before joining NCCU, Serba worked for two years as the Sports Information Director for University at Albany (N.Y.), overseeing the public relations and marketing needs of the university’s 23 sports teams.

Originally from Clifton Park, New York, Serba earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations and journalism and a minor in speech communications from Utica College of Syracuse University (now Utica University) in 1991.
