Harold Varner III Set to Play Wyndham Champ
GREENSBORO, N.C. – One of the most popular players in professional golf, Harold Varner III, is coming back to Sedgefield to play the Wyndham Championship in two weeks, the tournament announced today. The 83rd annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 3-7, 2022 at Sedgefield Country Club.
Varner joins World No. 15 Billy Horschel, former World No. 1 and major championship winners Adam Scott and Jason Day, defending champion Kevin Kisner, three-time champion Davis Love III, 2016 champion Webb Simpson, two-time champion Brandt Snedeker, European Tour stars Tommy Fleetwood and Rafa Cabrera Bello as well as 2019 champion J.T. Poston in the Wyndham Championship field.
The East Carolina University alumnus won the PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisors early this year – it was his second international victory, but he is still seeking his first PGA TOUR win. His best finishes this season are tied for third at the RBC Heritage, tied for fourth at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and tied for sixth at THE PLAYERS Championship.
Varner is a huge fan favorite making his seventh Wyndham Championship appearance; he was tied for the lead after the first round and finished tied for seventh in 2020 for his best Wyndham Championship finish. The Charlotte resident is 55th in the current FedExCup point standings and 37th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
“Harold has a magnetic personality that translates into how he plays and how he conducts himself,” executive director Mark Brazil said. “His outgoing, fun-loving nature is what makes him such a fan favorite, and it’s one of the reasons he’s one of the most-popular players on TOUR. We’re always thrilled to have him in our field, and I know all the East Carolina fans will be out in force to follow him at Sedgefield.”
