Saints Shut Down Falcons in Home Opener

RALEIGH, NC – The Saint Augustine’s University Falcons (0-2 overall) wanted to give their students and alumni a warm welcome home as they opened their home slate against Limestone College from Gaffney, SC (1-1 overall).

However, the Saints had other plans, as they cruised to an easy victory over the Falcons. The score was Limestone 73. Saint Augustine’s 14. Limestone recorded 659 yards of offense, outrushing Saint Aug by 293-105 and outpassing them by 366-223.

Limestone put the initial points on the board, as Tre Stewart recorded a four-yard run at 8:46 in the 1st Quarter, as the Saints led 7-0. Stewart added another TD run, as he rushed for two yards, for a 17-0 score to conclude the First Quarter.

Things got worse in the second quarter, as Limestone got points from Jadarius Hector (27-yard pass reception from John Seter), as well as Jelani Baker’s nine-yard run, as the Saints closed out the First Half with a 31-0 lead.

The Falcons finally got on the board, thanks to Rashawn Faustin’s 60-yard touchdown reception from Chris Perkins at 11:38 in the 3rd Quarter. Later on in the quarter saw Mekhi Hague score a two-yard-reception from Chris Perkins at 5:30 remaining in the 3rd Quarter. During the conclusion of the Quarter, the Limestone Saints led by a score of 59-14.

Limestone kept abusing the Falcons in the fourth quarter, by adding 13 points on the board, thanks to rushing touchdowns from Saints runningbacks #25 Brian Robinson (Charlotte, NC – Junior – Valparaiso Transfer) and #27 Nick Cunningham (Ladson, SC – Redshirt Junior).

Graduate Student QB John Seter (Darien, CT/Stetson) was a star performer of this afternoon’s game. Seter recorded 242 passing yards and two touchdowns. Also, Sophomore Tre Stewart (Winston-Salem, NC), recorded 120 rushing yards, rushing for three touchdowns.

The top performers for Saint Augustine’s were Sophomore Christopher Perkins (Spring Lake, NC) – amassing 223 passing yards, with two touchdowns. Also, Freshman Rashawn Faustine made an impact, by scoring a 60-yard touchdown reception.

Next week, Limestone travels to Jefferson City, TN, to face Carson-Newman at 1 PM. On the other hand, Saint Augustine’s will travel to Ettrick, VA to face off against Virginia State University for a CIAA Showdown at 6 PM, next Saturday.
