Bulls Drop Road Game Against Gwinnett on Wednesday
GWINNETT, GA – The Gwinnett Stripers (65-70) made sure to make their 1,454 fans happy, as they defeated the Durham Bulls by the score of 7-2, thanks to three hits by 3B Ryan Bannon and a two-run drive by Atlanta Braves 2B Ozzie Albies during his MLB Rehab Assignment.
The Stripers opened up the game, with Bannon driving a run by LF Herman Perez to open up the score, 1-0, in the bottom of the first inning.
Then, during the top of the 3rd Inning, the Durham Bulls got on the board when C David Rodriguez scored a run, as 3B Jim Haley hit a double to LF Herman Perez, where Bannon stopped the play. The score was even at one, apiece.
The bottom of the fourth inning was when the Stripers did the most damage, thanks to runs scored by Bannon, DeShields, and Clementia, inflating the lead, to 5-1.
The bottom of the fifth saw Bulls C David Rodriguez committing a throwing error when Stripers LF Herman Perez stole third base and Bannon stole second. Perez would later make the Stripers lead, 6-1. Afterward, Bannon would score from 1B Pat Valaika’s grounding out, as 2B Miles Mastrobi threw to 1B Luke Riley, as Gwinnett lead 7-1.
Unfortunately for the Bulls, they were only able to score during the last one as RF Ruben Cardenas scored as Jim Haley drove in a run as he singled to Ryan Bannon. This would be their second and final run, as the Stripers ended up winning by the score of 7-2.
Victor Vodnik picked up the win for the Gwinnett Stripers, as he pitched one inning, allowing one run, recording one strikeout, and earning a 3.04 ERA. Other pitchers for the Stripers were Jared Shuster (four innings pitched, two hits allowed, one run allowed, one error committed, one walk recorded, and four strikeouts with a 3.96 ERA), Freddy Tarnok (three innings pitched with three hits allowed, one run allowed, committing one error, walking two batters and recording three strikeouts with a 3.92 ERA) and Jay Jackson (one inning pitched with one hit allowed and one strikeout recorded with a 1.53 ERA).
For Durham, Nathan Wiles pitched 3.2 innings, while allowing seven hits, five runs, and errors, as he recorded one walk, four strikeouts, and a 12.27 ERA. Wiles picked up the loss. Afterward, Jeremy Walker pitched 1.1 innings, while recording two hits, two runs, two errors, one walk, one strikeout, and a 7.53 ERA. Then, Trevor Brigden pitched two innings and recorded five strikeouts with a 0.00 ERA and finally, Christopher Muller pitched one inning and recorded two strikeouts and earned a 5.20 ERA.
The Durham Bulls play the Gwinnett Stripers at 7:15 PM, as the third game in a six-game series at Coolray Field. The Bulls return to the DBAP for a final six-game homestand against the Norfolk Tides on September 20th, as they close out the regular season series against the Charlotte Knights, in a three-game road stand.
