NC State WBB Routs Quinnipiac to Open Season

RALEIGH – Tenth-ranked NC State women’s basketball (1-0) kicked off its 2022-23 season with an 82-45 victory over visiting Quinnipiac (0-1) on Monday evening in Reynold’s Coliseum.

The Wolfpack had an opportunity to show off the depth of its bench as all 11 members of this year’s roster played eight or more minutes in the victory. Each one of those women found the scoring column, and NC State had three players in double figures on the night.

Jada Boyd led the way for the Pack with 14 points, and the senior forward did not miss as she shot 4-of-4 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Camille Hobby, who earned her second career start and her first in a home game, posted 10 points as did sophomore guard Jessica Timmons. Madison Hayes (9), Saniya Rivers (9), and Diamond Johnson (8) each finished just shy of double figures in scoring.

Rivers, Mimi Collins and River Baldwin each made their Wolfpack debut.

As a team, NC State shot 46.8 percent (29-of-62) which included putting together clips of over 47 percent in the first and fourth quarters to bookend the game. The Wolfpack dominated the paint with a 38-12 advantage in scoring in that category and also outscored Quinnipiac 17-2 on the fast break.

The Wolfpack set the tone from the start, jumping out to a 9-0 lead that forced the Bobcats to take a timeout just over three minutes in. NC State ended up holding Quinnipiac to 0-of-13 from the field to start before the team made its first shot at the 5:03 mark in the first quarter.

Hobby scored eight points in the first quarter alone to help the Wolfpack build up a double-digit lead (21-7) after the first period, and Quinnipiac never brought it within single digits over the course of the final three quarters. NC State scored the final 13 of the first half to push its lead to nearly 30 (39-11) before going on to win by nearly 40 points aided by a 62.5 percent (10-of-16) fourth-quarter shooting mark.

NC State women’s basketball continues its season-opening home stretch on Thursday, Nov. 10 when it welcomes Elon to Raleigh. Tip-off against the Phoenix is set for 7 p.m. from Reynolds Coliseum, and the game will be broadcast live on ACCNX.
