Charles Hamilton Houston Foundation Awarded 2022 Social Justice & Racial Equity Grant

Durham, NCThe Charles Hamilton Houston Foundation, Inc. was awarded a 2022 Social Justice & Racial Equity Grant from Duke Energy Foundation for $25,000 to advance career exploration and readiness for boys and young men of color.

“We are appreciative of the Duke Energy Foundation for its investment of $25,000 to strengthen our critical work to expand our ecosystem, capacity, mission, and impact to provide academic support, college preparation, and career exploration for boys of color as well as skill development, career planning, and internship and job placement assistance for young men of color,” says DeWarren K. Langley, Visionary & Executive Director.

The Foundation provides a continuum of intensive skill and career-focused programs, services, and mentorship to facilitate academic, leadership, and professional development to prepare boys and young men of color for academic success and the competitive workforce.  The Foundation consists of three programs, the Young Men of Excellence Program, the Career Pathway Program, and Black Wall Street Academy.  In addition, the Foundation annually convenes the Boys of Color P.O.W.E.R. Summit and Black Male Empowerment Summit. 

The Young Men of Excellence Program provides workshops on career exploration and college readiness for boys of color in middle and high school.  The Career Pathway Program provides workshops on career readiness and connection to internships and full-time employment opportunities for young men of color, ages 18 to 25. The Black Wall Street Academy educates, trains, and empowers the next generation of entrepreneurs and expands skills to create and lead productive, purposeful, and profitable ventures.

The programs facilitate and support scholars and fellows to prepare and support boys and young men of color to develop a plan, and acquire the skills and experiences necessary to launch and manage a fulfilling career with economic stability and mobility to reduce disparate outcomes.

“We are thankful that the hard work of our scholars and fellows does not go unnoticed and is recognized throughout the nation. These funds will allow us to continue to uphold our mission of impacting the lives of males of color and help us to expand our efforts,” says Dr. Charles Iyon Mitchell, Chair of the Board of Directors.

The Foundation’s programs, summits, and services are at no cost to the boys and young men of color served.

If a parent/guardian is interested in enrolling their son(s) in the Young Men of Excellence Program, the parent/guardian must complete the Interest Form, http://www.rb.gy/dapble.
