Durham Kicks Off Operation: No Perched Packages

Durham, N.C. – The Durham Police Department (DPD) is partnering with Durham Parks and Recreation and the City of Durham Solid Waste Management Department to conduct Operation: No Perched Packages. This collaborative effort places recycling bins in three parks where city residents can drop off their leftover cardboard boxes from their holiday gifts, instead of leaving them outside their homes. Doing this can help reduce the risk of home break-ins. Each year Operation: No Perched Packages yields an average of 2.5 tons of cardboard turned in. Residents are encouraged to bring all leftover cardboard boxes to the below locations between December 19, 2022 – January 6, 2023.

Locations for Bins:

Morreene Road Park: 1102 Morreene Road., Durham, NC 27705

Walltown Recreation Center: 1308 West Club Boulevard., Durham, NC 27704

Irwin R. Holmes Center at Campus Hills Park: 2000 South Alston Avenue., Durham, NC 27707
