NC State Women’s Action Packed Win Over Clemson

Raleigh, NC –  NC State Women’s basketball (11-1) team battled against Clemson (8-4) in a heated match that had fans on their feet. The Reynolds Coliseum was filled with supporters who brought momentum to the Wolfpack helping them win against the Tigers 77-59 on Sunday (Dec. 18) evening.

The two teams had a very competitive game as each was playing equally as aggressively. However, NC State was able to win the battle at the half breaking Clemson’s full-court press and ending with a 14-1 run.

The first half started with Clemson in the lead with NC State trailing not too far behind. Player Bradford for the Tigers posed as a threat to NC State going into the 1st quarter having 10 by the quarter alone. Collins for the Wolfpack ended the quarter going 4-6 from the field goal resulting in 9 points for her team.

Aziaha James knocked down a clutch three to tie the game up with 3:17 to go in the 2nd quarter followed by another three to lead her team 42-34. This play alone caused not only the fans to hype up but also her teammates on the court and off.

At the start of the third quarter, NC State showed a full team effort looking for all possible scoring opportunities for each of their teammates. Brown-Turner shared the ball well and attacked the rim, feeding the ball to forward Collins.

By the 4th quarter, the NC State women’s team gained a 20-point lead causing Clemson to use several timeouts. Steal opportunities against the Tigers were shared by Collins, Hayes, and Baldwin who created fast break plays that Clemson could not keep up with.

Seven blocks were made by the NC State defense, which also limited Clemson to 33.8% shooting from the field. Madison Hayes stepped up big time for NC State without the PG Diamond Johnson. With 20 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals, Hayes led the Wolfpack. 16 points and 9 rebounds were recorded by Mimi Collins.

The Wolfpack plays against Duke, on December 29th, at 8 PM.  Join them back at Reynolds Coliseum for some great women’s basketball.
