NC State ends 2022 with loss to Maryland in Duke’s Mayo Bowl
CHARLOTTE, NC – This years Duke’s Mayo Bowl took place at Bank of America Stadium on Friday featuring the NC State Wolfpack (8-4) of the ACC and Maryland (7-5) of the BIG 10.
Maryland defeated NC State 16-12 to claim the Duke Mayo Bowl title.
The Wolfpack failed to eclipse 300 yards of total yards while Maryland finished their day with 342 of total yards.
For Maryland QB Taulia Tagovailoa he completed 19 of 37 passes, for 221 yards with one score.
On the ground the Terps RB Roman Hemby rushed hard all afternoon for 65 yards.
Although his long was only 11 yards.
Third down efficiency was huge in this game, with Maryland nearly converting 50%, going 10-21.
While NC State struggled to maintain drives and find the end zone.
With both teams having equal amounts of turnovers in today’s bowl. The starting Wolfpack QB, Ben Finley finished the afternoon 22 of 48 with 269 yards. Along with two interceptions.
Finley is only the fourth QB for the Wolfpack to take a starting role this season.
For Maryland sealing this win can be a boost heading into the spring.
For NC State, who was ranked coming in this bowl game, optimism at multiple positions following their roller coaster season has another let down to end it.
