The Tar Heels had a rough start in the contest shooting 1-5 on field goals while Duke ended the first quarter on a scoring drought that lasted for 4:35 in which they went 0-6 on shooting attempts.

The Blue Devils also seemed to be struggling to keep possession of the ball, and in fact by the 4:30 mark in the second quarter, they already amassed 11 turnovers.

In the second half, Duke looked to Deja Kelly to give them the boost they needed. Kelly was irresponsive to the call this game as she went 4-22 on the court averaging  11 points. Duke had multiple late-game opportunities, giving up extra passes and failing to chew to the clock effectively; however, they would have another opportunity to bring the game to a close.

Anya Poole tied the game up for UNC at 38 with 5:00 left, followed by a media timeout. Following the timeout, UNC went through a rough sequence with turnovers and missed shots allowing The Blue Devils to take the lead late on the free throw line.

Duke took a 44-40 win over UNC, bringing the season score for the rivalry to UNC 2 – Duke 1 .
