Roach & Filipowski Combine for 43 as Duke Wins 2023 ACC Tournament

GREENSBORO, NC — Jeremy Roach put in a game-high 23 points leading the No. 21 ranked Duke Blue Devils over rival No. 13 Virginia Cavaliers 59-49 on Saturday night (Mar. 11) to win the 2023 ACC championship.

Kyle Filipowski took home ACC Tournament MVP honors after pouring in 20 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals. The New York native finished the tournament averaging 19.7 points and seven rebounds in the Blue Devils’ three games in Greensboro.

The win tonight marks Duke’s first ACC championship title since the Blue Devils defeated Florida State back in 2019. They have now won nine straight and 12 of its last 14 games heading into the NCAA Tournament.

“A big thing for us in that time period was to not listen to the noise, whether it was good or bad, we made sure to keep the main thing the main thing,” Dereck Lively II told me after the game. “We’ve had plenty of ups and downs throughout the year and we’re playing our best ball right now — I don’t even view a lot of us as freshmen anymore, we’ve been through so much. This is a special group of guys.”
