Colorado Upsets Duke, Advances to Sweet 16

DURHAM, N.C. – Both Duke and Colorado would need overtime to settle things but the University of Colorado Buffalo women’s basketball team defeated the Duke Blue Devils 61-53 on Monday in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Colorado (25-8) came out on fire in the first half and continued to dominate through halftime to take a 32-26 advantage in enemy territory heading into the break.

The second half would be a back-and-forth battle until Duke (26-7) took the lead on a Celeste Taylor layup late in the third quarter to take their first lead of the game 41-39 with 1:37 left in the third.

Colorado was led by forward Quay Miller, who finished the game with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Jaylyn Sherrod added 14 points, six rebounds, and 3 assists.

Duke was led by guard Celeste Taylor, who finished the game with eight points, ten rebounds, eight assists, and ten steals. Forward Elizabeth Balogun chipped in 14 points and guard Reigan Richardson added ten points and eight rebounds to the Blue Devils’ effort.

With the win, the Buffaloes move on to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament.

Colorado will move on to face the 2-seed Iowa Hawkeyes in the sweet 16.
