Duke Guard Jeremy Roach to Test NBA Draft Process

DURHAM – Duke junior Jeremy Roach has announced he will enter his name in the 2023 NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility.

The lone captain for the 2022-23 squad that helped lead the Blue Devils to the program’s 22nd ACC Tournament title, Roach is coming off a career year that saw him average 13.6 points, shooting .343 from three-point range, .780 from the free throw line, while averaging 3.1 assists and 2.5 rebounds in a team-leading 33.2 minutes per game. The honorable mention All-ACC pick is 20 points shy of reaching the 1,000-career point plateau.

“I’m so proud of Jeremy and everything that he’s accomplished so far as a Blue Devil,” said head coach Jon Scheyer. “We fully support him and his family as he makes the decision to declare for the NBA Draft. He’s seen just about as much as you could see at Duke from the challenging COVID year to the special Final Four run and an ACC Championship this season. He’s everything Duke could ask for in terms of a representative for our program.”

After returning from a toe injury that sidelined him for four games, Roach averaged 14.9 points, shot .477 from the field over the final 18 games, and earned a spot on the ACC All-Tournament Team. He nearly doubled his scoring output in ACC games from his sophomore (6.9) to his junior (12.9) season.

“To the fans and Cameron Crazies – thank you for your support these past three seasons,” said Roach. “Since the season ended, I’ve had some real conversations with my family and coaches and done a lot of thinking about my future. At this time, we feel it is in my best interest to declare for the NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility. I look forward to gaining valuable feedback and experience in the pre-draft process. As I take this next step, I know I’ll always have the full support of my family and coaches. Playing for Duke is a dream come true and I feel the same about playing this game professionally.”

Roach logged his first career double-double with a team-high 19 points and career-high 11 assists in Duke’s win over Virginia Tech on Feb. 25 and poured in a career-high 23 points, including 19 second-half points and 11 of Duke’s 14 points in the final 4:52, in the ACC title game victory over Virginia. The Leesburg, Va., native also scored 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting in Duke’s NCAA Tournament First Round win over Oral Roberts.

As a sophomore, Roach averaged 11.8 points, 3.0 and 2.8 rebounds in the NCAA Tournament and was selected to the NCAA West Region All-Tournament Team during Duke’s Final Four run.
